The series began with The Wicked Wallflower, starring London’s Least Likely to Misbehave. Next, came Wallflower Gone Wild, with London’s Least Likely to Cause a Scandal. And here we are with What a Wallflower Wants, featuring London’s Least Likely to be Caught in a Compromising Position.
You don’t have to read the whole series, each book can stand on its own, but I recommend starting at the beginning and enjoying each of the Wallflower’s stories in order. Ms. Rodale writes a fast-paced story, full of adventure and rich characters. And I promise you will fall in love with each of her heroines, Lady Emma Avery, Lady Olivia Archer, and Miss Prudence Merryweather Payton.
In this third book, Ms. Rodale’s wit shines through and there’s no shortage of shocking circumstances, starting with Miss Payton’s fiancé pushing her out of a carriage in hopes to use her as a scapegoat to save his own neck when their coach is robbed by a highwayman. Her stubbornness and sparkling interaction with Viscount Castleton will keep you turning page after page.
But I was most impressed by her sensitivity in handling Miss Payton’s past. A young woman full of scars and fears, found love and acceptance and overcame her personal turmoil. A hero willing to accept her as-is, teaching her that we all have a past, but it’s what we do with the future that matters. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that dealt with these issues in such a beautiful way.
What a Wallflower Wants gets FIVE Red Pumps!
Miss Prudence Merryweather Payton has a secret. Everyone knows that she’s the only graduate from her finishing school to remain unwed on her fourth season-but no one knows why. With her romantic illusions shattered after being compromised against her will, Prudence accepts a proposal even though her betrothed is not exactly a knight in shining armor. When he cowardly pushes her out of their stagecoach to divert a highwayman, she vows never to trust another man again.
John Roark, Viscount Castleton, is nobody’s hero. He’s a blue-eyed charmer with a mysterious past and ambitious plans for his future-that do not include a wife. When he finds himself stranded at a country inn with a captivating young woman, a delicate dance of seduction ensues. He knows he should keep his distance. And he definitely shouldn’t start falling in love with her.
